Universiti Sains Malaysia (singkatan: USM) merupakan sebuah universiti awam di Malaysia. Kampus utamanya terletak di George Town,Pulau Pinang. Terdapat tiga buah kampus lain iaitu sebuah di Seberang Perai dan sebuah lagi di Kelantan dan sebuah kampus luar negara yang menawarkan kursus sains perubatan di Uttar Pradesh, India. USM mempunyai jumlah pelajar sekitar 29,789 orang pada 2006. Hal ini menjadikannya ia sebuah universiti terbesar di Malaysia dari segi bilangan pelajar. Universiti Sains Malaysia merupakan sebuah daripada lima universiti yang bertaraf universiti penyelidikan intensif di Malaysia. Hal ini jelas mencapai misi dan visinya menjadi universiti bertaraf dunia melalui program penyelidikan bertaraf dunia dengan perancangan dan pelaksanaan aktiviti R&D. Universiti ini mendapat sokongan daripada kakitangan akademik dan sumber manusia yang cemerlang untuk menjayakan misinya. Pada 2006, USM mempunyai kira-kira 30,000 pelajar termasuk 7,000 orang bertaraf pascasiswazah. Jumlah pensyarah seramai 1,600 orang. Hal ini bererti nisbah pensyarah-pelajar ialah 1:23.
